Wins and Losses

I. Am. Poor. I am a poor college student and I do not appreciate the rip off of college textbooks. True story- when I sell my textbooks back I always do it online because A. I can make more money than the bookstore will give me and B. I'm still giving someone else a better deal than they can get from their bookstore. Win-Win.

Another true story. Once upon a time I had a favorite blue pen. It was my favorite because it was the single best pen I have ever had in life. The institute was giving them out and I took one. Writing with it was so smooth, the color was rich and dark, it didn't leave an unruly amount of ink smear on my hand, and blue is my favorite color. I stupidly lent this pen to a guy in my Spanish class last semester and I never saw it again. HOWEVER! Today I was in the institute building, since it's the beginning of the semester again they're giving out more pens, but I could only find ones with black ink. Discouraged, I gave up trying to find a blue one and went to buy my manual from the institute registration office. And there it was, sitting in the cup of one of the office ladies... a blue pen. After hearing my story the kind office lady insisted that I take the pen. I have a new favorite pen and it is sitting in my lap right now. Lose-Win.

Back to being poor, I need to find another job/get more hours. I get like $7.50 an hour after taxes, I made more money in high school. And I was going to sing in the choir for the next general conference, but the only night they hold practices is the only night I work. Lose-Lose.

But I will not lose heart. I'm excited for a new semester. I feel like quoting Anne right now and saying "Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it." That's how I feel right now. 2010 is going to be a good year, I can feel it. How could it not be when I'm living the dream?

chit chat

It's been a while since I've been on here so I thought I should make a contribution today or some random thoughts.
It seems like after you learn a new word or hear a word that you haven't heard in a long time, suddenly you hear it multiple times within days of the first hearing. Have you just been unobservant before or is this word actually being spoken more? That happened to me with the word via. It was just weird. I don't use the word via very often, but maybe everyone else does.
Meanwhile, I'm stuck on the words "chit chat." The past few weeks whenever I am talking about talking I use the phrase "chit chat." It's kinda getting on my nerves. I have to make conscious effort not to use it.
Further meanwhile, the lady next to me in the computer lab is typing up an essay which I can only imagine is due for finals which are just around the corner. My eyes may or may not have gotten a little wandery and I may or may not have read the first paragraph she had written. And straight off I can tell she's not a native English speaker. Do I say something? Like, "hey, noticed all your writing was terrible, maybe I can help you?" Dilemnas.
It reminds me of the time I was in the city library back home and I saw a 12 year old boy looking at porn. I didn't know what to do, but he got off a few minutes later and I let it go. Probably shame on me there.
I need more gumption.

Ever think, "Where am I?"

So I'm in this English class called "Myths and Legends" and I so did not think it through when I signed up for it. It was right after I had finished reading one of those Percy Jackson and the Olympian books (they're like a weak Harry Potter, but still entertaining) and I was searching courses and the description of Myths and Legends made it sound way more interesting than it actually turned out to be... not only is the material boring, but basically everyone in that class played swords in the park. You know who I mean. And for the record, I like everyone just fine. They're all very nice people, they're intelligent... but just not a whole lot of connections beaming between our interests and personalities.

Anyway, the real story here is the other day I'm in this class and one guy addresses the class with "the highest authority on werewolves today says..." And I just blanked. I didn't actually hear or see anything for the next 20 minutes because all I can think about is, "Where am I?"

"Where AM I?"

Sweet November

I am currently car-less so whenever I have errands to run, I must either take the bus or walk. I prefer walking, if it's not too far. Anyway, a couple days ago I walked to a local grocery store to get a few things. The weather has been very chill and nippy lately, so I made sure to bundle up (I do NOT like being cold). When I was at the store, I saw a lady go to the deli counter and get an ice cream cone and suddenly I had to have one too! I'm very bad at ignoring food cravings, I should be way fatter than I am. So, I went and got myself a medium twist cone (best of both worlds, thank you Miley Cyrus) and then had to walk half a mile-ish home in the cold rain while eating ice cream. At first I thought I might be crazy. But turns out, I loved myself for it. The ice cream was very satisfying, and I enjoyed watching the rain hit the soft serve and make little raindrop dents. It was also nice because I walked down a lane that follows a stream, and I had some nice alone time. Just me and my cone.

Firsts

Wow, my first blog message ever. I feel very pressured to say something super inspiring and impressive to make it a good foundation. And that thought made me think of the primary song
"The foolish man built his house upon the sand..." Good thing this is just a blog and not determining factor for my eternal salvation cause now I'm really feeling the heat.

So I think I'll just bail now with saying, "How are you? Are you living the dream?"
